What happened when Alberta invested in arts and education in the Canadian Rockies?
In 1933, the Banff School of Fine Arts was established as a summer outreach program of the University of Alberta, offering a single course in drama. Since then, it has become a renowned cultural destination and educational institution, today known as the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Over its first four decades, the school generated and circulated ideals of culture and liberal democratic citizenship intrinsic to modern Canada. "Uplift" traces the role of the school in shaping arts and cultural education. Its story reveals how artists and investments in the arts had significant results for Alberta and Canada, and beyond.

Dr. PearlAnn Reichwein is a historian and professor of Canadian Mountain Studies. She teaches in the University of Alberta's Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation, offered master classes at the University of Innsbruck, and enjoys giving public talks in the Bow Valley.
This event will take place Thursday, March 30th, at 7:00pm in the Canmore Public Library Program Room.
