Enter the Canmore Library's Bad Poetry Contest!

May 25th is Towel Day, a day to celebrate author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Douglas Adams.

In honour of this day, the CPL is hosting a Bad Poetry Contest from May 1st - 25th. Write an original piece of Vogon poetry for your chance to win a The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy mug!

Enter Now!

Douglas Adams explains in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: “Vogon poetry is of course, the third worst in the universe.(…) During a recitation by the poet master Grunthos the Flatulent of his poem "Ode to a Small Lump of Green Putty I Found in My Armpit One Midsummer Morning", four of his audience died of internal hemorrhaging and the president of the Mid-Galactic Arts Nobbling Council survived by gnawing one of his own legs off.”

If you think your poetry talents can elicit similar (but hopefully, non-lethal) reactions, this contest is for you!

Between May 1st and 25th, submit a gut-wrenchingly bad poem which will make us wish we hadn’t been born. Submissions can be made online here, or in person by handing it to the unfortunate librarian at the desk. Don’t forget to add your name, phone, and email so we can reach you if you win (to congratulate you, of course!).

The winner will be announced on June 1st, with the best worst poem being select by Library staff, and will receive a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy mug.

So do your best, or worst (piece of poetry), and remember: “Don’t Panic“! :)
