Library Membership

Getting a Canmore Library Membership:

We require photo ID and proof of Canmore residency to create your library membership. Proof of residency can be a driver's license, lease agreement, a bill that includes current address, or any official documentation that shows both your full name and your address.

Temporary memberships are available with a $20 refundable deposit, no proof of local residency required, restrictions apply. *The Library only accepts cash or cheque for deposits.

Annual Membership Fees:

As of May 1, 2019, Library Memberships are free for all eligible residents. We encourage and appreciate any donation you would like to contribute to the library when you renew your card or at any time during the year.

Borrowing with Your Library Membership:

With you FREE Canmore Public Library card, you borrow many different physical items such as: books, audio-books, DVDs, CDs, Kobo eReaders, activity kits, walking poles, etc.

Item limits: 50 items in total can be checked out on your account at one time, 10 of which can be audio-visuals like DVDs and audio-books. You can borrow up to 10 interlibrary loans through the provincial resource sharing system (Alberta Relais) at once.

Hold limits: You can place a hold on 25 items in total. 

Loan periods: 21 days for most items; 7 days for Canmore Library DVDs (other libraries may have longer loan periods).

Renewals: 2 renewals are available for items checked out on your account, as long as there are no holds placed on the item.
