Friends of the Library Speakers Series Winter 2012 Beginning Monday, January 9th at 7:30 pm through on Monday, May 14, 2012
The following dates and speakers (TBA) are scheduled for the Friends Speakers Series: Monday, January 16th The History of Canmore by Rob Alexancer
Monday, February 13th Hiking Underwater by Noela Yates
This photographic journey will take you from your familiar mountain hiking to a new “hiking” environment – underwater. The differences might at first appear vast, but in fact there are surprisingly many similarities. You will find yourself immersed in a new world, without even having to get wet! Noëla is a keen hiker as many of you might know, but her passion for the outdoors also extends to SCUBA diving. While she has hiked in the Rockies for 17 years now, her diving began in the early 80s when she ran annual excursions to the University of Queensland Heron Island Research Station on the Great Barrier Reef, where she led her students in coral cay ecosystem studies. Nowadays her diving is purely recreational, and she and her husband Jeff try to take one trip a year on a live-aboard dedicated dive vessel. Her underwater photography is a relatively new hobby and she is decidedly an amateur, but hopes that you’ll enjoy her photos nonetheless. Monday, March 12th TBA Monday, April 9th TBA
Monday, May14th TBA
In the Library Gallery. Silver collection at the door.
