Midnight in Paris
7:30 pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Paris is a city that lends itself to daydreaming, to walking the streets and imagining all sorts of magic, a quality that Woody Allen understands perfectly.  Midnight in Paris is Allen's charming reverie about a screenwriter named Gil and his materialistic fiancee.  While vacationing with her unpleasant parents, Gil is taking a break from his financially rewarding but spiritually unfulfilling Hollywood career--and he cant' stop thinking that all he wants to do is quit the movies, move to Paris, and write that novel he's been meaning to finish.  Sure enough, a midnight encounter draws him into the jazzy world of Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Picasso and Dali, and an intense Ernest Hemingway, who promises to bring Gil's manuscript to Gertrude Stein for review.  Gil wakes up every morning back in the real world, but returning to his enchanted Paris proves fairly easy.  For Gil, the romance of that bygone era exerts a pull that places him increasingly at odds with his impatient, unimaginative future wife.

Hiking Underwater by Noela Yates

This photographic journey will take you from your familiar mountain hiking to a new “hiking” environment – underwater.  The differences might at first appear vast, but in fact there are surprisingly many similarities. You will find yourself immersed in a new world, without even having to get wet!

Noëla is a keen hiker as many of you might know, but her passion for the outdoors also extends to SCUBA diving.  While she has hiked in the Rockies for 17 years now, her diving began in the early 80s when she ran annual excursions to the University of Queensland Heron Island Research Station on the Great Barrier Reef, where she led her students in coral cay ecosystem studies.  Nowadays her diving is purely recreational, and she and her husband Jeff try to take one trip a year on a live-aboard dedicated dive vessel.  Her underwater photography is a relatively new hobby and she is decidedly an amateur, but hopes that you’ll enjoy her photos nonetheless.
