Monday, September 17

Science Writer's Gathering

6:30 - 8:00pm at the Canmore Public Library

Free, public drop-in program.

Always wanted to write about science or meet some of the authors in the Bow Valley?  Join local science writers to find out what they write about and how they got started.  Then chat with local authors, ask questions and purchase local books.  Event hosted by the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley and the Canmore Public Library.



Tuesday, September 18

Make Your Own Nature Booklet!

3:45 - 5:00pm at the Canmore Public Library

Free, drop in program for children 6-12.

Children ages 6-12 can join the Biosphere Institute and The Canmore Public Library staff to create their own Science booklets.  Use wildlife props and flora as an inspiration to write an epic tale of the plants and animals in the Bow Valley.  Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.



Wednesday, September 19

Science Movie Night

7:00 - 9:00pm at the Canmore Public Library

Free, drop in program.

The Canmore Public Library and the Biosphere Institute are hosting a screening of Short Circuit. A family friendly science fiction film about an experimental military robot that is struck by lightning and gains a more humanlike intelligence, with which it embarks to explore its new state.  An ‘old school’ film from 1986 providing a fun reflection on robotics and artificial intelligence.



Thursday, September 20

Bison 101
6:30 - 8:00 at the Canmore Public Library

Free, public drop in program.
 
Learn all about the return of the bison to Canada's first national park in this visual presentation. Karsten Heuer, Bison Reintroduction Project Manager for Banff National Park, will shall the ongoing story of the reintroduction, give an update on the bison, and answer questions about the project.



Friday, September 21

Preschool Storytime: Wriggling Worms
10:30 - 11:00am at the Canmore Public Library

Free, drop in program for preschoolers and parents.

Join the Biosphere and the Canmore Public Library for ‘a get your hands dirty’ session all about wriggly creatures that eat our scraps.  Kids will help build a real worm composter as well as enjoy a wriggly story time.

Be a Scientist!
1:00 - 3:00pm at the Canmore Public Library

Free, drop in program for children 8-12.

Join the Biosphere Institute and the Canmore Public Library for this fun program full of science activities. Solve challenges based around space, environmental science, wildlife, technology and careers in science!



Saturday, September 22

Science Exploration
10:00 - 2:00pm at the Canmore Public Library

Free, drop in program for families.

Families and the public are invited to drop in and join the Biosphere Institute and Canmore Library staff in an exploration of various activities that are centered around science topics such as space, chemistry, wildlife, and more! Children and adults of all ages are welcome to roam through the library program room and enjoy the stations freely, participating in hands-on fun.
