The Library is most appreciative of your support!

Endowment Fund

Donate Books and Materials
The library accepts donations of new and gently used books, CDs and DVDs which may be added to the collection if they meet our collection guidelines and selection policy. If they are not added to the collection, they will be sold in one of the three annual book sales organized by the Friends of the Canmore Library. The proceeds from these book sales are used to enhance the Library's collection, programs and/or services.
Please note that due to storage space constraints there are some materials that we do not accept. Items we do not accept are: textbooks, Reader's Digest condensed books, old encyclopedia sets and any material that is in poor condition.

Materials can be dropped off at the library year round during regular library hours. If you have a large donation, please call ahead to alert library staff. If you have any questions, please contact the library at 403-678-2468.

Sorry we do not issue tax receipts for material donations.

Monetary Support
Cash donations can be made to the Library directly or through The Friends of the Canmore Library Society which also accepts donations on behalf of the Library. Tax receipts are available for all cash donations.

Adopt-a-Magazine Program

Donors will receive a tax receipt and be acknowledged on cover of the current issue on display in the library. For a list of current titles or more information please contact the library at

Endowment Fund - Investing in the Library’s Future

Canmore Public Library, the Town of Canmore Library Board and the Banff Canmore Community Foundation announced the formation of the Canmore Public Library Endowment Fund with founding donors Elliott and Margie Bingham and the Friends of the Canmore Public Library.

“Libraries have always been an important part of our lives. So we appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing success of our library in Canmore.” Elliott Bingham
“The Friends of Canmore Public Library Society is pleased to be a founding contributor to the Canmore Public Library Endowment Fund.  The Library Friends group was formed in 1993 to support the Canmore Library, and this Endowment Fund offers us another opportunity to support our Library now, and into the future.” Gerry McAuley, President
Community Impact
The Canmore Public Library is a vibrant centre in the community, providing access to people of all ages, ability and means to information, reading materials and programming. While public funding keeps the Library’s doors open, it thrives because people love it. “We are so grateful for the Friends of the Canmore Public Library, and for Elliott and Margie Bingham for their generous support. It is an enduring gift to this Library and this community.”  Michelle Preston, Library Director.

Our library continually evolves to bridge the changing world and the digital age. It has always been an important community centre where parents can bring their children to instill an early love of reading, where kids can gather after school to do homework or students can conduct research. It is a place where people can read the news, apply for jobs, or research business opportunities, where a member can access almost any book, anywhere, and where programs continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of the community. It is a place where the infinite learning opportunities of the Internet are available to all, and differently abled people can access information in the format they need.

The Library is a vital municipal service. “More than ever before, our library is connected to the world,” says Library Director Michelle Preston. Libraries are no longer the stereotypical ‘quiet zones’ you may recall. Instead, new services, resources and technology have created a dynamic, energetic environment, where all ages can benefit from our weekly programs, partnerships and outreach initiatives.  Our Library is a well-used community centre that provides books and so much more, it is a place to learn and engage, discover and connect.

The Banff Canmore Community Foundation will manage the funds as part of their mandate to help people invest in causes they care about most.
“We are truly fortunate to have the Banff Canmore Community Foundation to manage the endowment fund,” expands Canmore Public Library Board Chair, Beth Millard, “their expertise, financial stewardship and pooled investment funds help us grow our benefactor’s generous contributions.”

The income from the Canmore Public Library Endowment Fund will play a vital part in providing support for programming and services, implementing facility enhancements, and creating a legacy for future generations. The endowment fund will give citizens of all means the opportunity to make a lasting gift, for the betterment of our community. As it takes time for the fund to build to a level where it is generating income for the library, it is important to invest now.
